A Google XML sitemap will ensure that Google and other participating search engines are made aware of all the pages contained within a website, speeding up the time it takes for your pages to be crawled by the search engines.
XML sitemaps are also high effective if your site has dynamic URL's / content, hidden or hard to find pages via traditional crawls or your site uses sophisticated forms of navigation and media such as flash.
XML is a rapidly growing format for describing any object on a website (sitemaps, products, services, menus, images, reviews, contact info, business info, etc), so any search engines can better understand its content.
